We had a great time welcoming our new pastor and his family yesterday! Thanks to everyone who helped make that such a special day for them and our church. The installation service was inspiring and challenging. The time of fellowship was delicious, I mean wonderful, as well!
For some reason, my mind went back to January. As you know, that was a special time in our family as well. Bretney and Avery were married, committing their lives to each other. In the midst of all the celebrating, there were bittersweet moments as well. Our lives were about to change – good, bad, or indifferent. Bretney was about to become an independent adult type person, even more so than when she went away to college. As much as we loved Avery, he would still go home at the end of the night. Now, they both get up and go to their apartment, leaving us at home.
We worry about them being so young and take the chance to share our wisdom, or at least our experiences, with them whenever appropriate. However, Avery has brought a lot with him as well. He is great with computers and other techie stuff so he gets a lot of our questions. He is also very funny and full of life; bringing (yet another) touch of humor and fun to our lives.
I did my best to drive home the idea that marriage is forever. Just ask Bretney! She’ll tell you! Now, pastors won’t necessarily be forever but we need to approach it as so. Mark is eager to learn about us and Bells and Crockett County. He understands the learning curve that faces him. We also have a lot to learn about and from him. He has new thoughts and understandings from God and about God to teach us and lead us. Just as we have accepted Avery into our family, First Baptist must accept Mark so we can grow together, learn together, and move forward together. We must if the Kingdom of God is to move forward!
Just like newlyweds, we have a bright future ahead of us! For some reason, I’d love a piece of wedding cake right now!
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
