I need a lot of devotional help! Rather than having one daily devotional time, I divide my day into three parts, and three shorter devotions. King David is my example. In Psalm 55:17 he said…
“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud; and He shall hear my voice”.
During the month of December I really need those three daily times to pause and catch my breath. Daniel 12:4 says; “Many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.” This is called “an end-time” prophecy. It means that the closer we get to the second coming of Jesus, the more hectic our pace of life will become.
December really makes us aware of how busy our lives have become. Christmas parties, decorating our homes, cooking special dishes, shopping and wrapping gifts; can require eighteen hour days. However, many of us would have to admit that we keep ourselves over-booked most of the time.
This often begins when we are young adults. We want our children to be in all of the church activities, be able to take music, art or dance lessons, play ball, etc… etc…etc… By the time we have our average of 2.5 children raised, our “normal” lifestyle is one of constant hurry. Rather than intentionally slowing down our pace when the children move out, we often simply fill up our schedule with other things.
I seem to feel more important when I have more things to do than I have time to do them. Perhaps pride plays a part in the constant rush which characterizes my life. It could be that I break my devotional time into three parts because I am not willing to spend more than an hour on devotional activity at one time. Ouch!
Now I have one important part of my daily devotion finished. That is my confession and I’m told it is “good for the soul”. How about you? As soon as you get the time, you might also think about slowing down. And, be quick about it!
