Well, I did it again! We had two cool days in a row, so I got in a hurry. Now all of my short-sleeve shirts are stored in boxes for the winter, and I am trying to fold up the end of these long-sleeve shirts. I wish I could tell you this is the worst problem I ever created by getting in a hurry.

Proverbs 19:2 ends with these words; “he who hurries his footsteps errs” (NAS). Proverbs 21:5 adds; “everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty” (NAS). The New Testament also reflects this same warning when it says; “Since then these are undeniable facts, you ought to keep calm and to do nothing rash” – Acts 19:36 (NAS).

We live in a society which makes those who move at a slow, deliberate pace feel like they must either be dumb or lazy. Many business men almost point with pride to their first heart attack before the age of fifty. Even if it costs them their health, they seem to need to prove they are “giving it all they’ve got”.

Most adults have heard sales “pitches” like these: “This is the last one in stock” or “This sale ends soon” or “We have someone else coming to look at this tomorrow”. We know these are just tricks to get us to buy something without taking enough time to really think about it.

Sales people are not the only ones who trick us into feeling that we are not really “earning our keep”, unless we are rushing around all of the time. Most families have at least one member who just can’t sit still, and they try to make you feel guilty if you do. Don’t let them!

We do not want God saying about us, what He said about Israel in Isaiah 30:15

“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength’. But you were unwilling.”

If you are allergic to roses then stop and smell the coffee. If you don’t like coffee then just stop and smell. If you will simply breathe deeply and slowly, five times you can actually feel your heart stop racing so fast.

Blessings,
