Verse: Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Devotional Thoughts:
When I was in college I studied social work, and much of my coursework required study in sociology and psychology. Basically, we studied why people do the things that they do. And one thing I noticed is that we, as a society, no longer like the idea of calling sin what it is – sin.
For example, society looks at a person that has been lying often and calls it a bad tendency. We see a person disobey their parents and society says that they just need to be better educated. A man robs a gas station and society says that he is just a product of his environment.
The truth is that we generally want to point our finger anywhere else but ourselves when it comes to sin. But we, at the core, are sinful people. We have a sinful nature. And this is something that we cannot change on our own. Renaming it won’t fix it, becoming better educated won’t fix it. Sinfulness scales educational status. Changing your environment won’t fix it. Adam and Eve sinned in the best environment ever created. You see, we are all sinners, all of us. The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We all stand guilty before the Lord.
And the truth is, there’s nothing we can do to “fix” it. We must be saved from it.
That’s the great thing about Easter week, about the Gospel, about what Jesus did for us on the cross and what Paul is talking about in this very verse – we are undeserving sinners, but even still, Christ died for us.
He died for us. He died instead of us. He died to save us.
Points to Ponder:
Put your faith where God has put your sins – right on Jesus.

I want to encourage you to read the Easter narrative through this week. Start in John 12:12 and read a couple of chapters a day.
Blessings,
