I was at the thrift store and I came across a game about movie quotes.  It seemed right up my alley so I couldn’t resist buying it.  We met up with some friends later and decided to try it out.  DaLee only got two out of the three parts right on the first question so she didn’t get to move.  I happened to get a question I knew, so I moved my piece ahead.  That was the highlight of the game.  Three questions later we were still in the same place, hitting vague movies or even vaguer quotes!  It was then we decided to chuck the game and just read through the cards to see which quotes we knew.  We had a good time even though we didn’t actually play the game.

This is similar to what’s going on in our culture and our world today.  We have a rule book.  It’s called the Bible.  When the rules get tough (or we get too lazy or stubborn to accept them), we push them aside and come up with our own rules of “how to play the game.”  God gave us Ten Commandments and He expects us to follow all ten.  We shouldn’t, we can’t, pick and choose which ones we want to follow and leave the rest behind.  Other teachings and directives of the Bible are the same.  I had a student once who said, “I know the Bible says (some thing) is wrong but I think its ok.”  Like the old song says, “God said it and that settles it.”  Bottom line is this:  if it’s not The Word, then it’s just your word (or his word or their word.)  And that bottom line is what this whole world is built on and the only way it can continue to function properly.  Forrest Gump says “life is like a box of chocolates” but God is the great “I Am.”  ‘Nuff said.

Until our next togethering,
love ya, Bret.
