Dory has become a one-woman messaging machine. Every morning, she sends out an inspirational, challenging, and/or thought-provoking quote on Snapchat. (That’s one of the newer messaging platforms. If you don’t know what that is, find someone under 35 and they’ll explain it!) She also sends a picture of her daily Bible verse calendar. Then, every evening she sends out another one to end the day on a high note.
Snapchat is interesting. They are short bursts of information that disappear shortly after you look at it – basically once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Teaching high schoolers and having three young adults in the family, I am constantly amazed at the glut of information in our world today. Snapchat is only one of a dozen or more messaging apps. There are thousands of web celebrities with YouTube channels showing a variety of programs. Apparently scores of people are waiting and listening for the opinions of these “influencers” so they will know what makeup to use, clothes to buy, or food to eat. Podcasts abound on the internet covering every topic you could imagine – and probably several more you couldn’t!
In this world of fast paced information and minute by minute news updates, some folks don’t give the Bible much attention or credence. They feel it’s outdated and out of touch, but they couldn’t be further from the truth! Hebrews 4:12 tells us that “The Word of the Lord is alive (or living).” God rarely speaks out loud, but we can easily hear His voice on page after page of the Bible. If we seek Him as we read the Bible, He will speak to our immediate need and situation. It is “active (or powerful),” able to minister, to teach, to reprimand, or to heal. And it is “sharper than a two-edged sword” which means it can cut coming and going – nothing can withstand its power.
So, the next question or wonder or doubt you have, forget the internet and go to the source! And He’s not limited to 60 characters!
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
