I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  My brother grilled ribs and I hurt myself!  Besides enjoying great food and time with my family, I also paused to remember and give thanks for so many who gave their lives to insure my freedom and way of life.  I am proud to be an American and I am humbled by the sacrifices of others.  God bless their families as they remember their losses.

I am also proud to be a Christian.  To help me along, I usually listen to Christian music on the radio.  DaLee and I have noticed that every so often there seems to be a “battle of the songs” so to speak.  One song will come out with one point of view and then another will come out that seems to contradict the earlier one.

Here’s a case in point.  A song came out a while back about the importance of leaving a strong, Christian legacy.  “How will they remember me?”  It wasn’t an egotistical thing.  The question was what kind of witness and testimony you will leave behind.

On the flip side, a newer song proclaims “I don’t want to leave a legacy; I don’t care if they remember me, only Jesus.”  This song writer doesn’t want to be remembered, he just wants people to remember Jesus.

Seemingly contradictory, the reality is that both these songs are really saying the same thing.  If people remember me, I want them to think about Jesus because of me.  If they don’t remember me at all, I want people to think about Jesus.  Jesus – He is the bottom line, whether they remember me specifically or not.

I might or might not personally know a soldier that died in war but I know and enjoy the legacy of freedom they left behind.  Whether folks remember Bret or that music man in the bright clothes, I want them to remember that I spoke, taught, and sang about Jesus.

Until our next togethering,

love ya,

Bret
