Okay, it’s time to get ready for bed. I’ve played too many games of Mahjongg, seen 47 different crafts to do with old, men’s ties on Pinterest, and checked Facebook to see my fourth cousin’s (twice removed) Friday night fish fry. Now, before I even think about anything else, I must write my article for the newsletter. Yes, I’m talking about procrastinating.
So, what is it with procrastinating? Sometimes it can be helpful, like waiting for a better day to do something. It can help with sorting the mail – that big pile of coupons eventually expires, and you don’t have to cut and sort them! The downside is that you can put off paying your electric bill and find yourself eating cold food by candlelight. Men, you might get by with that once or twice, but the wife will figure it out sooner or later! Along that line, NEVER procrastinate when it comes to your wife’s birthday! Sentimental gas station goodies might work once but don’t count on it!
The upside is that God didn’t procrastinate when He sent His Son Jesus. Romans 5 says that “at just the right time… Christ died for the ungodly.” The downside is that too many people procrastinate about giving their lives to Jesus. They sense Him calling but don’t respond. Just like a sore can turn into a callous, their hearts can become callous toward the Lord’s promptings. That is not an excuse to not tell people about Him though! They need every opportunity they can get!
We, His children are not immune either. God calls us to pray, or give, or serve, or even go. When you feel Him touching your heart, then is the time to respond. Don’t put it off or you too can grow callous and unresponsive. Procrastinating may be fun or even challenging but it has no real place in our spiritual lives. By the way, I’m starting a procrastinator’s anonymous group, but I think I’ll wait till next month!
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
