When I got home, I went around the corner and rescued a small set of drawers from a trash pile. I know that I or someone near can (surely) find a use for them. They’re in good condition and I’m not sure why they were thrown out. I don’t know, maybe there wasn’t a place for them in their new apartment? All I know is that they are now in my garage waiting to be cleaned up and put to good use.
Yes, a quote very near and dear to my heart is “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” which correlates to “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” With a little spit and polish, those drawers will come in mighty handy and I have no trouble envisioning that candle stick, even with the small dent, in a place of honor on my patio table.
Jesus sees us in much the same way, if you will. No matter what dings, bruises, and scars we may have collected in this lifetime, Jesus still sees the beautiful creation He made us to be. He longs to gather us up and recreate us back into His image of us. In the hands of the Master Carpenter there is no such thing as an unneeded or unusable piece of wood or other material. Anything (any one) can be restored.
The next problem comes from us. Some have spent so much time on the trash pile, we believe the lie that we are unusable, unworthy, or even incapable of being repaired. We see the dirt and grime while Jesus sees the diamond still shining underneath. We can get so bogged down in the mire that even the effort to reach out to Jesus seems too much to do. God made man in His image and said, “It is good.” Don’t let satan try to lie you into believing anything less!
I think I’ll take another look around the neighborhood.
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
