How are you at texting? If you have to ask what texting is, God bless you and I’ll see you next week. Some folks text-type with two thumbs almost as fast as I type with ten fingers! I use the “swipe” method which allows me to run my finger over the keyboard, barely landing on the desired letters. The phone decides what word I’m looking for and, if I’m careful, is correct a lot of the time. DaLee prefers the dictation method. She pushes the microphone button and talks to the phone which translates that into typed text. She thinks it’s more accurate than swiping.
No matter what the method, a text still can’t convey much emotion. No matter how much DaLee might whoop and holler, her speech to text will plainly read, “I got a free lunch at work today.” To help with this, many people are adding exclamation marks to their texts. A period seems flat and lifeless while an exclamation point adds some zing. Does that still do it justice though? What is the exclamation point scale? Are one to three points equal to a nice birthday card worth of excitement while six or more equal a surprise birthday party? What if you overuse them? Then they become just as senseless as the period. You find yourself using five or six just to say Good Morning. (Good Morning!!!!!!)
We have the wonderful privilege of having the Bible, the incredible love story between God and us, His creation. Even greater is the fact that the Bible is the Word of God. It has been called “living and breathing” meaning God can (and does!) speak to us as we read it. He gives us advice and guidance through its pages. Further, we can read the same section now and a year from now and it can seem completely different. Why? Because God is addressing our need at that moment. It’s one of His ways to speak to us. At times, we can almost hear His voice! So, text your friends but listen to your message from Almighty God!
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
