As I left school last Wednesday, I noticed the ominous looking black cloud in the western sky. It was so big, so spooky, so hazardous looking, I had to take a picture of it. The rain started back as I got out on 412. As I crossed the hill coming into Bells, I saw that the open field across from Pictsweet was half under water. I turned into the parking lot and found a lake flowing toward me. The little ditch by the gas station was over its banks and swiftly flowing toward the four way stop. There was water all around the fellowship building and the back parking area was a flowing lake as well. It was incredible and I’ve got the pictures to prove it. I’m so glad our leadership chose to err on the side of safety and dismissed the service.
Now, I saw the Forked Deer river when it flooded a few years back. I also saw the Mississippi river out of its banks and covering lower Beale Street. To be in town though, away from a main river artery, Bells had a LOT of water!!
When I thought about all that water flowing around our church building and out into the city, I wondered. “Isn’t this what the love of Jesus should be like?” As we gather to praise and worship Almighty God, His love surrounds us in an incredible way. How often do we keep the doors shut, so to speak, and hold all that love in? Shouldn’t we, as the channels, let His love flow out into every street and home of our community? Shouldn’t His love overflow us and into the lives of every other person we come in to contact with? May we flood Bells and Crockett County with the incredible love of Jesus!!
So, go gush!! Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
