Well, we did it!  The two, young love birds are now married and living it up in Gatlinburg.  A wonderful variety of family, friends, church families, and others filled the church to watch and celebrate this beginning of a new family.  It was a wonderful ceremony and reception.  It was such a blessing to look out as I walked Bretney down the aisle and see all the familiar faces.

Now, it wasn’t quite “Cecil B. DeMille and a cast of thousands” but the production crew involved several family and friends to make it happen, to which we are especially grateful.  My cousin Bruce and his wife Jeanie came a day early, specifically to help.  As we did our planning, I said, “Ok, we’ll put Bruce and Jeanie here to help with this.”  DaLee’s sister Doreen ran several errands.  Almost the entire Ohio delegation spread across the reception area to turn on the candles right before we started. All around us people stepped up to lend a hand.

In a similar fashion, this is a picture of the church.  Even though I had made several trips up the ladder, when my six foot plus nephew arrived, I sent him up for the next job.  Likewise, some people are gifted and talented in an area and need to serve there like teachers or organizers.  Turning on scores of candles was short work when 8 or so people got involved.  Similarly, there are other times when everybody just needs to pitch in and help.  I’ve seen several fellowship meals where the last person at a table will gather up the paper tablecloth and throw it away.  That person may or may not have been on the social committee but they helped anyway.  This type of service attitude is especially important now as we are without a pastor.  We can and must carry on our God-given work in this place and in this community.  Like the old saying, “If we don’t do it, who will?

I think I’ll go have another piece of wedding cake and rest up for my next time of service.

Until our next togethering,

love ya,

Bret
