What kind of a Christmas decorator are you? Being from a big family, DaLee’s group traditionally got together after Christmas, over New Years. So, since we were gone part of December, DaLee wanted our decorations up early, like the weekend after Thanksgiving. (Don’t worry; we did wait till after Thursday.) We start taking it down once we get back from Ohio, usually finishing by the end of the week. Don’t know what you do but there are all kinds of traditions.
By now, you are probably cleaning up your Christmas and resetting for the New Year. The wrapping paper is in the trash bag. If you’re like us, the gift boxes and bags are folded and boxed away for reuse. The ornaments are packed away as well as the tree (or the tree’s on the curb if you go real.) The question is, “What else did you pack away?”
Trash and otherwise unusable things should go in the trash can. Humanly those might include bad attitudes and poor choices. There’s no need to hang on to those. They have no place in the New Year. Good attitudes and choices can certainly be recycled and used again! We’re supposed to learn from our past (failures and successes!) Wouldn’t it be terrible if we had to continually learn a lesson over and over and over!?
And the gifts? Some are things we need. Some are things we can certainly use. Some are things we wouldn’t have thought of but turn out to be a nice addition to our life. Jesus’ gift of salvation is the best gift ever and should be at the top of our “keep and use” list. Our relationship with Him affects (changes!) our whole lives and continues to “give.”
So, as you “reset” for the New Year, don’t pack away Jesus or your relationship with Him. A New Year for you is a New Year for your Christianity. Let’s not just grow chronologically, let’s grow spiritually as well! Happy New Year!
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
