Man has probed the inside of an atom and sent spaceships into distant outer space.  One mystery remains – how to cure the common cold.  Like many of you, I am battling the cold gunk.  I thought it was just seasonal stuff.  It started out as the crud in the back of my throat.  I took something for that.  It got a little better and then went into my head.  I took some decongestant.  That helped some but then it shifted gears and went in my nose.  Anything I took would attack that particular symptom but wouldn’t quite knock it out.  And that’s the problem, cold medicines only work on the symptoms, not the baseline problem.  If we knew what germ or virus or whatever causes a cold, we could attack that one thing and probably be done with it.

In a similar way, that’s what Jesus does with our spiritual lives.  He attacks the root problem – sin.  We could study the Bible all day long and gain a lot of knowledge but if we don’t deal with the sin, we’re no wiser.  We could sing and praise for hours but if we don’t deal with the sin, we’re no closer.  Jesus dealt with the sin problem on the cross.  He paid the sin price that each of us owes.  When He said, “It is finished,” He meant it.  We don’t have to deal with our sin debt any more.  That doesn’t mean we won’t ever sin again, but it is paid for – for eternity!  What could be better than that?  No more band aid approaches.  No more quick fixes that don’t last much longer than the breath it took to say it.  Our sin debt it paid.  Period.  Jesus is known as the Great Physician for good reason.  Call out to Him today!

Until our next togethering,

love ya,

Bret
