As you read this, we are shoulder pads deep in Vacation Bible School.  In case you missed out, this year’s theme is sports based so all the decorations and slogans and whatever have to do with sports.  As I said Sunday, this is not my favorite theme but hey, I can still have fun with it!  I get to laugh and sing and hop around.  Oh wait, I do that anyway!  But I don’t always wear my short pants!

Also, from Sunday, I hope you are continuing to cover this Bible School with prayer.  There is so much going on – Bible studies, games, crafts, snacks – by a great group of volunteers.  It’s going well but we need God’s hand on it to continue to do so.  We need prayers for safety, for more children to come, and most of all for the Good News of Jesus to be heard!  There are many ways a Bible School could be measured as successful.  How many children came?  How many new people did we meet?  Even how many kids gave their life to Christ?  Each of those is valid on different levels and at different times. The first and foremost issue however is, “Did we present and promote the Gospel of Christ?”  If we didn’t then our efforts were misguided.  It’s all about Jesus.  If it’s not, it should be.

Just like us, churches all across America have realized the value of having a Vacation Bible School.  It’s a concentrated time of Bible teaching to children – some of whom don’t go to our church or any church.  And the bigger picture reminds us that each one of those children represent a home with others who need to hear about Jesus.  Brothers, sisters, parents, even grandparents and cousins could be affected by little Johnny coming to Bible School.  That ever-expanding influence should never be taken lightly!

So, continue to pray.  Come on down if you can.  Give a pat on the back or encouraging word to the volunteers.  And thank and praise the Lord we have this opportunity!

Until our next togethering,

love ya,

Bret
