Whew!  Nutcracker weekend is now over and we have all just about passed out.  It’s a fun and exciting time but it makes for a very full week and an even fuller weekend of almost nonstop activity.  The parents help all over the place to make sure the production goes on from backstage moving props to the “Sweet Shop” (aka refreshment stand.)  While Dory was in several numbers, Bretney and I got to be “dancing parents” in the party scene.  Poor DaLee, being chairman of the souvenir photo booth kept her tied to the lobby.

Being good Baptist, we understand committee work!  Even our kids however, know that not everyone does equal work on a group project.  I guess that prepares us to be adults on committees.  Some folks work together well and some not so much.  Some are “born leaders” and take charge of the meetings while others float along, hoping to stay under the radar and not be asked to do anything.  Some are hard workers while others feel it necessary to supervise.

All of this reminds me of the old adage, “God so loved the world… that He didn’t send a committee.”  He didn’t get the accounting angels to do a survey about real and perceived needs among mankind.  The R & D department was not charged with coming up a new product.  The marketing angels didn’t put together a campaign to sell salvation to the world.  After the failure in the garden, God knew exactly what was wrong and what we needed to fix it.  He turned to His Son Jesus and said, “I need you to go.”  And He did!  He compressed Himself into a tiny human baby and spent the next 33 years among us.  Then He gave the perfect answer to our imperfect world – His life.  So as we celebrate His incarnation, be sure and tell Him thanks.

I can’t wait for you to enjoy our Christmas musical, “The Big Christmas Broadcast of 1943.”  Its fun music and a fun show and it all points to Jesus.  Be there!  And invite – no bring – a friend!

Until our next togethering,
love ya, Bret.
