More times than I’d like to admit it, I get sucked into a “debate” with a student about some topic or other.  Now I’m not saying I know everything but in all their blissful innocence (and ignorance) they go on and on about why they are right and I’m wrong.  Recently I asked my students to compare a choir to a sports team.  One student claimed they were nothing alike; being on a sports team took lots of work but being in a choir took none at all.  “They just get up and sing.”  “How do you think they all work together to sing the same song?” I countered.  “Everyone already knows the song.”  (I hope you see the fault in his logic like I did.)  In my head I think “Just one more thing.  This next point will sway him or convince him or make him understand” and I go on debating.  Sorry to say that I usually end up against a wall, more frustrated and worn out than before.

There are many other areas where folks are just as adamant.  Any true blue Vol fan will argue ‘til his last breath as to why they won over (or lost to) Alabama.  Recent fiction fans quickly divided into Team Jacob and Team Edward.  Bring up spiritual matters however and we are quick to clam up.  “I don’t know enough about the Bible.  I don’t know where Cain’s wife came from.  How do you explain the ten plagues?”  As much as I want my students to know and understand what I’m trying to say about school subjects, we should want a lost and dying world to know about Jesus all the more.  Now, we don’t need to beat them over the head with a Bible but as we love them, we should “be ready in season and out of season” to tell them about Jesus.

Thanks Choir for another great job of leading out in worship!

Until our next togethering,
love ya, Bret.
