Dory is our avid reader. Of course, school slows down her recreational reading but if she enjoys a book there’s almost no stopping her. In the past few years, she has even pre-ordered the upcoming book in whatever series she was reading and received it the moment it was released.
She is also very adamant about her books. Sometimes, I admit, I have a tendency to skim over some details so I can get on with the story, living in the rush of the narrative. She however knows a lot of the details of a book. So much so that she was majorly disappointed in the recent movie version of one of her books. The actress was all wrong to play the lead – her hair color, her size, etc – as described in the book. Actors in some other roles didn’t meet her expectations as well. Just the other day, I got a free DVD rental and I saw the second installment of the series so I brought it home. Much to my amazement (and a little disappointment) she had no interest in watching it. The first movie had already ruined it so she didn’t want to see the second one. Oh well,
I wish I could be that adamant about the Bible. It is, after all, God’s Word. And it’s alive! He can and will speak to us through it if we seek His face and ask Him to speak. And He speaks to us through different verses at different times. There have been times when a verse practically jumped off the page at me, speaking to whatever situation I was in at the time. Later I would reread it and it didn’t have the same impact because my situation had changed. May we read the Bible with expectation, with longing, and with listening ears and hearts. Speak Lord for Your children need to hear You. We want to hear You. We must hear You.
Listen for His voice.
love ya, Bret.
