Having theatre and drama in my background background, I’m a bit of a movie buff which has trickled down to the girls as well. I guess it came with our new phones but we all are quick to use a movie app where we can look up actors, films, music, and all kinds of other stuff. DaLee and I were flipping through the channels when we landed on “The Bible” from the mid 60’s. I pulled up my app to figure out who one of the actors was and included in the information was a quotes section. Now you know any good movie is going to have a quotable line that you can pull out and throw into a conversation. Some are even iconic and have been around for years. I couldn’t resist it so I clicked on the link and sure enough, there was “In the beginning, God created…” and “You are bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.” The quotable quotes were Scriptures! Imagine, “In the beginning…” ranks right up there with “We’re off to see the Wizard” and “Frankly my dear….” On the one hand, it was funny to think the website people had picked out these lines which were straight out of Scripture but on the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised.
I only wish I could quote as much Scripture as I can movie quotes. When faced with a stressful and trying situation, I hate that my first thought is “frankly my dear…” instead of “trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding.” Instead of “we’re off to see the Wizard,” I should be saying, “I will lift my eyes to the hills where my help comes from.” This may not be the greatest film version of the Bible (did you know Adam spoke with a British accent?) but it did remind me how slack I am in memorizing Scripture, and that’s what will get me through, not movie quotes. So don’t follow the “yellow brick road.” Let’s make it the road beyond the “narrow gate.”
Have a great week serving the Lord.
love ya, Bret.
