I am sooooo full – still!! I went with the Senior Adult group to eat fish at Reelfoot Lake. It was a fun trip, and we had a great time. The meal was delicious, too! Here I am on Tuesday evening, and I’m still full from my “just one more bite” of fried apples. (I won’t tell you that at supper, DaLee and I shared some of the ones I brought home in a doggy bag! Those apples just really hit the spot today!) After a wonderful meal, a friend in Virginia used to groan in embarrassment and supposed horror when her husband would declare “Oh, I’m bloated” to describe how full he was.
I love food – especially good food! I love the smell, and the taste, and even the texture (at times). That’s part of what makes me such a good Baptist! I can work a potluck with the best of them! I have almost no problem with my foods touching each other. Sometimes I’ll even pair them on a forkful. I love food!
Now the question is, do I love the Lord just as much? The Psalmist tells us to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8, NIV) but do I crave Him like I crave a grilled pork chop at a steakhouse? He also tells us that a righteous man’s “delight is in the LORD’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.” (PS 1:2, HCSB) I know some people who will barely finish one meal before they’re making plans for the next one. Do I think about the Lord like I think about the candy bar that’s waiting for me in the cabinet? And Paul warned the Ephesians to “not get drunk with wine (bloated with it, if you will) … but be filled (saturated, overflowing) with the Spirit.” (Eph 5:18-19, NASB) I’ve felt like that after conferences or worship services where I’m really in tune with God. However, that should be our aim all day long, every day.
Life with the Lord is an all you can eat buffet, why settle for peanut butter and crackers!
Until our next togethering, love ya,
Bret
