It seems we are always in transition! Life is change. One day leads to another and provides occasional surprises, but, all in all, things are pretty steady.

Health issues provide the biggest surprises for many people. Something develops that we aren’t prepared to face or it develops in someone we care about!

Sharing adversity is a very important gift that each of us should be willing to learn. It is very difficult for any of us to go through hard times alone.

Even in creation, God declared in Genesis 2:18 “ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

I will provide help appropriate for him. Marriage should be two people helping each other. Friendship is similar! Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

In Proverbs, we also receive the instruction to not desert our friends or the friends of our father! A brother is wonderful but when you have a critical need, a friend who is near is more helpful!

In the Lord’s Church, we should have both family and friends that ‘are there for one another.’ We’ve heard the expression ‘I’ll be there for you.’ The best understanding of this is that we are nearby for our family members or our friends when adversity strikes.

What kind of ‘help meet’ are you? What kind of friend are you? My hope is that we are the ‘Biblical’ kind. The love of Christ constrains us; i.e., it directs us. My hope is that we are the Biblical helpmeet and the Biblical friend when we are needed!

I remain grateful to serve with you!
