Before this day is totally gone, just in case I missed someone, let me say “Happy Mother’s Day” one more time. Again, to my wonderful Mother – hey, she had me, didn’t she!? Also to my wonderful Mother in Law – hey, she had DaLee! And speaking of DaLee, Happy Mother’s Day to the mother of my children. I say a prayer for our girls as they will hopefully become mothers one day (Hey, not too soon!). I also send out a Happy Day and thanks to all the wonderful women who have been a part of my life, pouring into me, influencing me, shaping me, and most importantly, guiding me toward God and encouraging me in His ways.
For most of the world, the word mother or mom evokes good and positive feelings. It connects to love and warmth, comfort and protection. No matter how big and tough the boys are on the playground, if they get hurt, they want their mommas! The super macho ones may hold it in but as soon as they are in the car away from their friends, it’s “I want my momma!” As such, a lot of brands use mom as their name, to suggest home cooking, good ingredients, and lots of love stirring the pot! There’s a Mom’s pasta sauce. Our family in Cincinnati used to take us to one of their favorite Italian restaurants, Momma Larosa. If you look closely to the new Wendy’s girl, you can read the word “MOM” in her curly collar. I’m not sure a fast food burger would count as home cooking but many would claim it as comfort food!
All that to say, Moms play a very important role in our lives – even beyond giving birth to us! Christian mothers are especially critical because they (along with the Christian fathers) lay the foundation for our Christian faith from the day of our birth. That is our grounding, our bedrock. God bless you all! .
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
