I had a new experience over the weekend. Months ago, I was talking about mowing with a coworker. A few days later he gave me an intriguing treasure he had gotten at a yard sale: a reel lawnmower — non-motorized. Translated – 1 Bret power. We were in the middle of a million things, but the yard had to be mowed so it seemed our only option. Over an hour later, the yard was noticeably shorter but there were still weeds and clumps scattered around. It looked like a first-time haircut from someone training to be a butcher. But hey, it was cut!
Power. What an incredible thing. Cutting the grass was changed dramatically when they added an engine to that reel blade. The horse and buggy shifted into high gear when they went “horseless,” and replaced the horse with an engine.
Jesus was filled with power. A supernatural, otherworldly power that knew no end. When the ailing woman touched the hem of His garment, Jesus said, “I felt power go out of Me.” Jesus spoke to the raging storm and it calmed to a gentle breeze. Later, that same God power is how Jesus Himself came out of that tomb after being dead for three days. His power is more powerful than a hand grenade, a nuclear warhead, or even splitting the atom – combined!
A current song on Christian radio says, “The same power that rose Jesus from the grave, the same power that commands the dead to wake, the same power that moves mountains when He speaks, the same power that can calm a raging sea, lives in us.” Yes, that incredible power is available to us! The question is, do we take advantage of it? Do we use it? A battery lying on a counter really does no good until we put it in the flashlight and turn it on. His strength is perfect, and His power is limitless. Why are we so content to wallow in our own weakness when a dynamo is right at hand? It may not help me with the yard, but it can change my life! Enjoy His power!
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret
