I attended an Arts and Arts Education conference presented by the TN Arts Commission last week. It was great. Lots of good information, inspirational speakers, and even some fun stuff – intro to jazz dancing and theatre improv. At lunch on Thursday, with a couple more classes to go, some of us were discussing the conference and one lady said, “It’s great but my brain is so full!” I agreed completely. You have back to back classes all day long – some related to each other and some on other topics. It’s easy to get a little overwhelmed.
Several times during the conference and then as I packed to come home, the question came to me, “What now?” What will I do with this information? I attended an overview/introduction to the new TN Fine Arts standards we will teach at school so that’s a no brainer. The dance and improv will be helpful in my plays at school. I’m hoping to incorporate the creative problem-solving lessons wherever I can.
Our spiritual life can be similar. We read our Bibles, devotional books, and maybe even Christian blogs. We go to Bible Study (Sunday School) and soak up some more great information. We go to the worship service where hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs along with wonderful preaching fills us up even more. So, the question is, “What now?”
We have all this wonderful information and knowledge about God. What do we do with it? On the one hand, this is how it should be because you can’t get water out of an empty well. On the other hand, we’ve got to share what we have. We just can’t keep taking in and taking in and never giving out. That’s the problem with the Dead Sea I’m told. We must share about Jesus. Not only is it a good thing to do and the right thing to do but it is some of Jesus’ final words – Go into all the world and teach them about Me. There is a season to “sit and soak” but there is also a season to share.
See you Sunday for our Christian Citizenship celebration!
Love ya,
Bret
