If I asked about the variety of things you do on your cell phone, we could probably talk for the rest of the day.  Among all the crazy things you and it can do, did you know that it can tell you what music you’re listening to?  Point it at the radio and it will tell you the title and artist in just a few seconds.

Now comes the fun.  We went to a tribute show hosted by the Symphony.  The guest artists were singing the “power ballads” of the 70’s and 80’s.  They did a great job but obviously, not the original.  I grabbed my phone – discreetly of course – and played “Name this song.”  The band sang a song that most everyone sang along with.  I pushed the button on the phone.  It listened for a few seconds and replied, “No close match was found.”  I got a good laugh but had to try it again.  Second, third, fourth, and fifth time – “no close match was found.”  The show was great but the comic subterfuge was just as good!

It made me think, there are a lot of things that claim to be God, or at least godly.  When we hold it up to scripture, it almost automatically comes back, “no close match was found.”  There are a lot of good things in this world, but if it’s not God, it only goes so far.  It may sound like God.  It might even look like God but if it’s not really God, “no close match was found.”  The Bible might not tell you how many miles it is to Lexington but it will tell you about Almighty God, the one true God, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

Remember God’s “phone number” – Jeremiah 33:3.  “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things that you don’t know.”  If ever in doubt, go straight to the source!

Until our next togethering,

love ya,

Bret
