Dory went to another one of her “speech” contests. (These are not just speeches but all sorts of things – dramatic readings, poetry readings, even debate matches.) This was the district tournament, a necessary step to go to the state tournament. They had to rank in the top four in order to advance. Well… (Proud daddy moment) she won first place in her category! We were all excited but then she tried to down play it a bit. To be the district level, this tournament was rather small. It ended up that there were only two in her category. She downplayed the winning over one other person but still, she won! And she gets to advance to the state tournament.
When we tell about our Christian experience, one part of it is to tell about our life before Christ. People need to understand where we came from and out of what life or circumstances God brought us. That way, they can relate to us or realize that we weren’t (and still aren’t!!) perfect. Growing up, I heard a lot of fantastic “testimony” stories where God brought folks out of drugs, gangs, and a life of crime. I always felt so inadequate. Not that I wasn’t a sinner who needed a Savior but I grew up in the suburbs with sidewalks and several neighbors who often served as ad hoc parents. My testimony is rather boring compared to so many. However, God loves me and saved me just the same. And if I allow Him, He can use me just the same as He does a convicted drug lord. Our background is influential but not nearly as much as our future! We remember where we’ve been but our eyes must remain focused on God and where He is leading us! Christian brothers and sisters shouldn’t compete. We’re on the same team, striving for the same goal – pointing folks to Christ. When we do that, we all win – for the Kingdom of God!
I’m looking forward to a wonderful celebration this coming Easter and Resurrection Sunday. The choir has been working hard preparing some special music. Looking forward to seeing you – and a friend!
Til then,
love ya,
Bret
