Have you dried out yet? Oh my goodness! This rain has been crazy hasn’t it! There were a couple of days when my shoes were soaked through as I helped get kids into cars after school. Even my socks and feet were wet! In the midst of that 5 day stretch of rain, I kept expecting to see pairs of animals lining up somewhere to get on a boat!
Then, all that rain brought the threat of floods. One afternoon, DaLee and I drove around and were amazed at the swollen creeks and rivers, some lapping the edges of the pavement. Naturally, on the one hand, the flooding was brought on by the shear amount of rain we had. On the other hand, when it continued to rain the new rain had nowhere to go. The ground was so soaked that it just puddled and pooled and overflowed, connecting to make even bigger puddles and pools. The low spots in our yard completely filled up. Had they been a little deeper, I would have been tempted to install a diving board!
After a fashion, that’s the way we should be with the Lord. We should be so filled with Him that He spills over into everything we do. Jesus taught that our mouths speak “from the overflow of the heart.” (Luke 6:45) Whatever fills our hearts will come out in what we say and what we do. There’s a funny saying going around on Pinterest that says “I want to be so full of the Holy Spirit that when a mosquito bites me, it flies away singing ‘There is Power in the Blood.’” Now, maybe not a mosquito but wouldn’t you like a friend, a neighbor, or perhaps more importantly, a perfect stranger to walk away from an encounter with you thinking, “Wow, he acts just like Jesus!” I’d be more than happy with that critique. Wouldn’t that be a great goal to strive for? May we, individually and as a church, become so filled with Jesus that He “floods over” into everything around us.
Until our next togethering,
love ya,
Bret.
