School children were being asked what Thanksgiving was to them. One little boy says, “It starts with the gobbler and ends with the cobbler”.

Thanksgiving is not just an American celebration. Psalm 50:14 says “offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High.” Thanksgiving may be the most earnestly “Christian” holiday. No one has thought of a way to make a fast-buck off of Thanksgiving yet. Therefore, they just try to get you to start Christmas spending before Halloween.

If Thanksgiving is going to be real for you, there must be something to be thankful for. If you can think of few reasons for being thankful, you need to compare yourself to those who have less than you do instead of those who have more.

The average annual income worldwide is about $500 per person. Is there any American who fails to receive more than this in goods, services, and income each year?

If Thanksgiving is going to be real for you, there must be someone to be thankful to. One ancient tale says a hog got loose in an orchard. He happily feasted on the fruit that lay on the ground. He ate his fill but never realized the source of his banquet was above him.

Do not let this day be like most days when you enjoy the bounty and beauty of the earth but fail to stop, look up, and acknowledge the God who created it all.

If Thanksgiving is going to be real for you, then you must be the one who is thankful. We are able to be thankful. God has given us the ability to give thanks just as He made it possible for us to breathe. Just like you can hold your breath, you can withhold your thanks. Neither of these optionsare healthy for you!

Blessings,
