There are times when we day dream. We get bored or have nothing to do, and our minds begin to wander. Recently, I began to really consider what it was that I thought about during those moments where the mind begins to wander. I love sports, so I think often about my favorite teams. I love the Kentucky Wildcats. I will think about the upcoming games, and wonder if our defense could stop the pass. Then I remember I am a Kentucky fan, and as much as I love their football team, we struggle often. Then I thank God that we have a great basketball team. I spend time thinking about different situations and circumstances, really a multitude of things, and I see what I find to be very important to me.
As I have been reading through the Old Testament, I have been rereading stories of people I have read about my whole life. I am enjoying reading the Psalms that went along with the different situations throughout the course of history. One thing that has really jumped out at me is that David loved the Law of God. In fact, there are a multitude of Psalms that David penned, where he expressed his love of the Law to God. David spoke of how much of a blessing it was, and how wise it was, to meditate on the Law of the Lord day and night (Ps. 1:2). When we can turn our minds attention to God’s Word, and the things of God, our whole perspective on life changes. The small things become smaller, and the important things get in their rightful place. I have always heard it said that when we pursue God whole heartedly, things begin to be set in order. He will reveal to you what you need to focus on and what you need to quit doing.
I encourage you today to make an effort to think about God, His Word, and all that He has done for you, when your mind begins to wander. Train your mind to do so. I cannot help but imagine the good it will do for the Kingdom of God, and the impact He allows us to make on it, when our minds are so consumed with thoughts of Him.
On another subject, I cannot express enough gratitude to those who helped this weekend. It was a great opportunity to make an impact on the children in our community. Every child walked out with a candy bag and the gospel. Pray for those children and their families, that they can read those tracts, and that the Spirit works. Thank you to all who came to set up, cook, serve, and clean up! And thank you to Roger Kirkland for putting together the Men’s breakfast Saturday morning! I am very thankful for our church family!
