We did a lot of good and loved on a lot of people in a tangible way at our Inasmuch day. As much as I like to shop, the yard sale was the perfect place for me! I had a great time sorting and arranging the clothes and other donated “goodies.” I sure paid for it the next day though. My legs were really sore after all that bending over, squatting, and getting up and down! Even more though, I had a great time working alongside my church family! We had time to talk and share and have a laugh.
Working together, building unity, and sharing God’s love are all great things. However, another aspect of Inasmuch and other church wide events that excites me is the opportunity to build a good reputation for our church and in turn, God. It is so easy for a misunderstanding or problem to put a “black mark” against our church in the broader community. Just like that “crazy uncle” (or whoever) that taints a family name; church problems can mar our (and God’s!) reputation. Every opportunity to do good and love on our community is a chance to mend or improve that. The smiles, the hugs, the thank you’s – all were evidences that our efforts were appreciated. The question is how far-reaching will our efforts be? Weeks and months from now, when someone has a personal crisis or a spiritual question, my hope and prayer is that they remember our kindness, our friendliness, and our genuineness and seek us out for answers. Then we can share the good news of Jesus, the real answer to their questions.
As always, I am so pleased and blessed to be a part of this church family. Have a great week and try to get some rest.
love ya, Bret.
