In this day and age, if you do not have anything going on, you are an anomaly. We all have very busy schedules. We have work, school, homework, family, friends, hobbies, and more. There tend to be times in the week where we just want a moment to breathe. That is why we go on vacation. Even then, however, you do not really get a chance to relax. There is always something that needs to be done, or someone who needs your help.
I have noticed, in my own life, that when life gets really busy with extracurricular activities, I can start worrying. There were numerous occasions, while I was in school, that I had a long workday followed by putting together a presentation and working on a major paper. I would fret over what needed to be done. I would begin to worry, because I realize there is a lot more to do than there are hours in a day. I worry because I cannot control everything. I may let someone down; I may disappoint myself. When I worry, I am so focused on all that I have to do in the next couple of days, and you really feel out of control.
I feel confident in saying that the problem with worry is not looking at what needs to be done. I would say that it has to do with our misplaced priorities. We worry about petty things and in doing so we take our focus off of Christ. When we no longer keep Him the center of our focus, we make things more difficult. We get frustrated and down, maybe even depressed because our list of things that need to be done gets longer.
Matthew 25 tells us how foolish it is to worry. The birds of the air are taken care of, the flowers in the field grow as they are supposed to, yet we worry over little things. God will care for you! We, at times forget that He is sovereign. He is in control over all things. He commands the seas, He created the mountains, He saves the lost, and He is in control. Rely on Him; focus on Him. He has you where you are, when you are for a reason. Seek Him first and strive to bring Him all the glory and honor, and the worries of life will fade away.
