Jackie Warren, a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, put together a list of answers her students gave when asked about their mothers. One question she asked was; “Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?” The answers she received included: “Because we are related.” And “God knew that she likes me a lot more than other people’s moms like me.”

Everyone wants their mom to like them. Even when we are fifty years old, we still hope that our moms are pleased by our actions and lifestyle. Of course, mothers have a much greater priority than being “liked” by their children.

Did you see the video which went viral on Facebook last week? It showed a mother chasing her teenage boy and dragging him out of the riot in Baltimore. He was taller than she was, but he did not fight his momma! It was very obvious that she was not very proud of him at that moment, and it was obvious that he did not “like” her very much right then. That is just the price that a good mom has to pay if she hopes to raise good kids.

One of the best examples we have in the Bible is the testimonial which Paul wrote about the way in which Timothy was raised. 2 Tim. 1:5 tells us that Timothy had seen the faith modeled by both his mother and grandmother. If you were blessed with a mother or grandmother who modeled faith for you, thank God for them. If they are still living, thank them as well!

If your mother is living and attends church but you do not, please attend with her this Mother’s Day. That is the very best gift you could possibly give her.

Blessings,
Bro. Dennis
